Tuscarora
The rose grey mare is one of Tuscarora's, behind her is her yearling filly....she is huge!
Tuscarora, the band stallion, is the grey. He is a small, stocky guy. He has two mares, the grey and the black. The little palomino filly must have been born late last here and had a hard winter....she is missing an ear tip, most likely due to frostbite. This little band is shy of people. I feel honored they let me briefly observe them. Another all girl band!
I love this little grey spanish looking stallion and his lovely harem. He is named for a round up in Nevada that went bad, many of his cousins died in Tuscarora. He is named in honor of them.

Stolen Sparrow
Oh no! Hurricane and Haze, the 2 bachelor stallions have stolen the little orphan bay filly from Eagle. Eagle is near by trying to get her back, but Hurricane is putting up a fight. We can only hope she will be ok. She seemed fine, not stressed. Just grazing next to the big boys.
Had to take a shot of my adopted mustang's sire, Vegas. Look at the little roan behind him....he is a cutie.
Here is Vegas's yearling daughter and 2010 colt, both out of his grey mare, Casino.
Here is Lucky, He has such a great expression....both him and his bay mom are real wiley. Before Vegas they were with Beau. On this day they were near him.
Cody has stolen Beau's mare and her foal. the mare could be sisters with his other mare. they both have thin stripes down there face. One goes left and one goes right. Both mares have foals, but no yearlings with them.
Beau got pretty beat up, most likely by the roan, Cody. Hopefully it looks worse then it is...he was tailing Cody and walking out fine, but I couldn't help but feel sorry for the beautiful white stallion.
Here the two stallions meet. It is clear Cody is the boss!
Bear, the stallion with the brand.
Bear's only mare, Ellie.
And this is her little curious smokey palomino filly, Flirt.
Here is a band I don't see very often. The 2 big blazed horses are pintos, but not heavily marked....just splashed with color. The white mare is very nervous. She seems alpha and has a new foal. The stallion is the buckskin.
Look who I found....Centauro's missing grulla pinto mare. I was so glad to see she was ok and with a brand new band I had never seen before.
This "new" band is led by an extremely handsome bay band stallion with 4 white socks.

Cosmo's growing band
Here is Cosmo. He is a gorgeous, loyal gray band stallion out at Sand Wash Basin.
He has recently acquired Femur's mare and yearling filly. Vogue is the pinto mare. Gem is her filly.
Even though Gem is almost as big as her mom, she is still nursing!
A close up of Cosmo. He is quite tolerent of people.
This is Astro, who was born to Tulip this spring.
...and this is his new sister, Heidi. She is a late foal....so cute! She just got up from a snooze.
Lots of greys in this harem of horses.
Heidi has primitive striping on her legs. she is a true beauty....a miracle of nature.
She has a long, cold winter ahead of her. I am glad her dam is healthy and strong. I have a feeling she will make it.

Crow's Late Filly
Crow finally had her foal! A funny little filly John named Blaze.
Can you see her behind Crow? She has a little band....her band stallion, Yellow Man, yearling brother Star and her blacker then black dam.
Looking for a snack.
I think she will grey out....she has the tell tale grey rings around her eyes.
Yellow Man always looks worried. Crow seems to make most of the decisions in this little family band.
Standing proud beside her wise old mom. Little Blaze is a modern day American Mustang.

Picasso
The one and only...Sand Wash Basin's Picasso. An American Icon. A living legend.
The domestic he has added to his band. A friend has named her Monet. Her future is uncertain, the BLM , USHS and Sombrero know she is in with the wild ones. It is just a matter of catching her. I don't know if she could survive a winter out here...she does not have the mustang hooves which are needed to paw the snow for food.
The bay mare is very pregnant. This will be a very late foal.
The medicine hat mare with her 2010 filly and the bay mare's black colt. Her yearling pinto colt just recently left the family band.

Missing Mare
One of Centauro's mares is missing....the grulla pinto. Her yearling, the black with the crooked blaze, is still with the band.
Nahmana
Nahmana is the late foal in Tashunka's band.
Here she is with her entire band.
This is the mighty Tashunka, Nahmana's loyal red roan band stallion.
The roans really show their battle scars!
Nahmana's sister is also a bay. She is shown with another mare in the family, Wi Wakan.
There is the other 2010 filly on her left. She was born in the spring. She has a better chance of surviving the winter then little Nahmana.
But Nahmana looks healthy and strong and hopefully her dam, Moda, can supply her with enough milk to get her through the long Colorado winter.
She is cuter then cute!
One last pose with her wise old dam, Moda. She was named Moda because of her missing ear tips, which make her look bear like. Moda is Lakota for bear.
