Bugs Reclaims

Bugs has gotten his family back.
The mares seem more settled with him. Like I said before, they did not accept Slick, the black stallion who stole them away from Bugs.
Look who is leading the way! The chunky pale colt I call Butch.
Here is the handsome buckskin Bugs.
Butch and his palomino brother.
Hanging with the big boys.

Centauro's Band

Today I finally get a close up view of the band of nine I have seen so many times in the distance. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3KgfKCEHcM
They are led by a stunning dappled grey stallion, Centauro.
The two palominos really stand out, they are a mother daughter combo.
Here they are running...It is cute how they are all paired off.
See what I mean? It was easy to see which yearling belonged to who.
They finally settled down and got a little curious about me. They are all so blooming!

Centauro snakes his harem around. He is a band stallion that is protective and loyal to his family.
Here is the palomino mare with her filly. The black pinto on the left is the grulla pinto's daughter. The grulla on the right is a colt.
There is the grulla colt's mom on the far right. They both have spectacular blazes. This is a Sand Wash trait.
The horses are always touch feely with each other and stay close to one another. I just love this little colt!
Here are the glamour girls. She sure inherited her mother's good looks!
Here is the grulla pinto with her black pinto filly. She is always the one I noticed when I saw them from a distance. She is even more stunning up close. This mare is tough and relies on her family band to survive. Life is brutal out at Sand Wash, not just any horse can survive in these extreme conditions. She is 100% Colorodo bred, American mustang.

Breeze

Today I find Twister and his family. Windy has had a brand new foal!
Super cute and healthy. He is a colt. I will call him Breeze.
Here is Breeze's stallion and yearling brother, Gust.
Gust kept trying to get Twister to play with him!
The other mare in the group looks like she might be pregnant. She is slate grey, I will call her Shady.
The little guy sure can run! He is stuck to his mom like glue.
My guess he is going to grey out.
He does everything his mom does...
Windy is a good dam and shines in the sun. She is a gorgeous wild mare.
He has got some legs on him!
This is Twister, the sorrel band stallion. I call him Twister because of his tangled mane.
Next I spot a new guy (to me). He is an amazing grulla. He has come to get a drink.
Isn't he a looker? I wonder how he ended up all alone?
There are quite a few horses of this color out at Sand Wash. They blend in so well with the sage they live amongst.
It was nice to see this new guy. He was striking the way he moved across the desert.
Yay! Finally I see my friends Corona and his beautiful harem. They all are doing great!
The light colored horse in front is Bobby, he has really grown!
Corona seemed to be favoring Cheyenne and Whisper on this day. Whisper is getting along fine, even though he is disabled with a rear hock injury or deformity.
The wind was blowing about 40 miles per hour and the sun was glaring...very difficult to take good pictures.
That is Lona, Bobby's dam, on the right. I guess I never realized she has four stockings. Lots of chrome on this mare!
Em and the filly, One Spirit. Mother and daughter. They have a very strong bond. It is nice to see.
There is little Bobby.
Corona making a funny face.
All of a sudden the horses take off in single file at a good clip....
Here is Indian Rose, the rose grey with her yearling. She still looks like she is pregnant.
The horses get a cool drink of water on this very hot day.
Then they are off! Back to where they came from.
Thanks Corona! What a fine looking family you have!
On my way out I see Benson. He is usually near the white stallion, Snow Man. It is always good to see these guys. They have been around the wild horse block a time or two!

Rita's new foal

Rita had her foal! So cute, I will get back to this later...
First I saw Cowboy and Voodoo just trolling along. Seemed on their way to somewhere. These two bachelor stallions are often seen together.
Next I spot a horse hiding behind a little hill. On closer inspection I see it is the bay stallion, Viggo, and his band. This is the pinto mare in the group.
There is Stomper looking down at me. His dam plus the pinto mare are very pregnant. Any day now for both of them!
Here is Charm, the yearling filly in the family. She is a nice pinto like her mom.
I don't know what they were looking at, but something sure was interesting them. The black mare does not have a baby and does not look pregnant. She seems to be alpha mare.
Such a pretty band of wild horses. I wonder if the medicine hat mare will throw another pinto colored foal?
I love their roman noses! See how pregnant the pinto mare is? Wow.
Here is the magnificant, loyal band stallion, Viggo.
The medicine hat is soooo pregnant.
I like this picture of the adorable filly with her band stallion.
Well, that brings us to Rita and her new foal. Front and center. The handsome horse on the right is Rita's yearling colt.
The black stallion, Slick, has just recently acquired these mares. They used to be with a buckskin stallion who I have not seen him around the range. The mares have not fully accepted the new band stallion, especially the sorrel one, she did not seem happy with the new guy.
Here are the mares Rita and Hazel with their yearlings, both colts and the new foal. They seem unsure about the stallion.
Sister Hazel is a beauty and very pregnant. Her mane almost touches the groud!

This guy was born healthy and strong. Biggest, chunkiest foal I have seen! He is a colt!
Here is the black stallion. He has one white sock on his front. He seems pleased with his new family. There are many more stallions then mares out at Sand Wash. Slick was lucky to have found these mares. I'm sure he battled a bit to win them over.
Soooo cute, special and unique!
Slick
Off they go! I was lucky to observed them so close, specially with the new foal. Thanks horses!
I also saw Jet's band on this day. They are all accounted for. Kinstry is still the only 2010 foal. Sun Spot, the grey, looks pregnant.
As usual, Jet was very skittish and did not stick around long. This group really travels around the basin. You never know where you will see them.
On my way out I saw Benson, he was with Snow Man. Another great day spent out at Sand Wash Basin with the wild horses.
