The Pinto Foal

One day I spot the bay stallion, Eagle with his small band. There is a new guy! He is a pinto colt.
There he is front and center with his lovely dam, Lark and the little bay filly yearling, Sparrow.
He has got a split face. So far I have observed only 2 pinto foals this year.
He is a sound, healthy little colt.
This is his band stallion. A very handsome bay.
Here is little Sparrow. She is a very small filly and looks a little sickly, but she has her family to watch over her.
I love the mare's silver mane. This is a very nice looking little band.
Again, this time with their stallion. I hadn't seen these horses since the spring. They are minus a young sorrel pinto stud.
Eagle has an usual white mark on his neck, maks it easy to tell him apart from other bays.
Love his bird marking on his neck.
I am thankful this band of wild horses let me view them, even though not for long. In true mustang fashion they ran off after briefly viewing me.

Bobby and Yampatika

Here are Corona's two 2010 foals. A colt and a filly.
Here is the band stallion, Corona, the one and only.
The filly, Yampatika was born later then her brother.
Bobby was born way back in March. He is growing up healthy and strong.
Lona , Bobby's dam, has lost her right eye. She is a surviver. A tough, wiley mustang mare.
Here's Bobby showing his sister the way.
He is a cheeky little fellow!
Yampatika takes a break from the action.
Wanting to play.
Here they are down at the water hole with Picasso's filly daughter.
Brother and sister. Corona's little babies.
Picking on her.
Sweet little filly.

The Band On The Hill

I made a special point today to go see Twister and his beautiful little wild horse family.
He has two gorgeous grey mares who both have 2010 foals.
They also have a grey yearling, Twister's buddy, Gus.
The mares are very wary, especially the dark dappled one, Shady. That is little breeze in the front with his dam, Windy. The tiny grulla is in this picture, but he knows how to hide behind mom!
Here is the little chunky monkey grulla colt....To me he is extra cute. His mom and big brother look out for him on the range. Life is not easy out here. I know of at least 2 foals that have already passed. The true test for a mustang is surviving the harsh high desert winters.
I hope this guy makes it. So far he looks great. A little Sand Wash beauty.
Breeze is also a handsome boy, he was born a couple of months before the grulla. He is going through a molting phase.
Both of the mares have incredible wind knots in their manes.
Breeze.

Vegas Video

Vegas

This encounter was extra special to me....I am pretty sure this is my adopted mustang's sire, Vegas!
Here he is with his new family. He was rounded up and released in 2008. They removed his mare ( a roan, my guy's mom ), her yearling and my Odakota, who was a weanling at the time.
He is big! This is his yearling daughter.
His new colt. What a color!
He lost half an ear. Not just a tip, a whole half!
Willie seems to be his friend and comes over to say hi.
Look at that tail!
They acted like long lost friends. They are both big stallions. I feel very fortunate to know who my 2 year olds dad is! And to see him running free is a bonus. How cool is that?

Rounder

Here is the liver chestnut who stole Lightning's mares. Joe, a friend from Boulder, has named him Rounder.
The bay mare with the star has had her foal...a colt! he has a wonderful wrap around Sand Wash Blaze. I just love this little guy!
Here he is with the other youngster in the band , Diego.
Diego seems pleased t have a new buddy!
That's Rounder. There is another look a like chestnut on the range. Rounder has a right front sock.
A friend has named this beautiful little guy, Cabellero.
He reminds me of a bit of the sorrel stallion that hung out with Lightning? Just a thought.
Diego is greying out.
Welcome to the world! The next generation of our American Mustangs.
