Mystery Black
I am very lucky on this day....I spot the handsome roan stud Tashunka with his colorful harem of Mestengos.
Everyone is accounted for plus he has added a black horses to his band or did she/he join him?
Jet is missing Beauty, his black yearling, but to me this horse looks older. The black has a front white and a back left sock plus a smudge for a star. If any one knows who this is speak up! The horses are still not talking.
Anyway here is the band stallion with his blue son, Takoda.
Moda was being real alpha. She is the one that led them away after she was done with us.
Walkan Ska wih her beautiful little filly, Chikala. I love this shy grulla mare, she is a beaut.
Nahmana, little spirit of the high desert. I believe she is starting to roan out. Tashunka's late filly.

Crow's Late Filly
Here is Crow's late filly. She is greying out fast!
This is her gorgeous white band stallion, who looks out for her and his small family.
This is Strider. He is from a different band and was born much earlier this spring, but the two bands are almost always seen next to each other. I believe the mares have a tight bond.
She is cuter then cute! I love her little stocky built and her determination of a mustang.
Here is Strider again, he is also an only foal in his band although River, his yearling brother, is his best friend and playmate.
Behind the little filly is her greying out brother, Star, and her wise old black dam, Crow. This is not Crow's first foal. She is a seasoned mare and knows her way around the range. She will have to use all her skills to keep her little late filly alive through the extreme winter months ahead.
This is Strider's band stallion. It is quite a sight to see these two bands together with the two white stallions.
See how Star is starting to grey out? It is fun to observe the greys, they all change color differently.
See the determination I am talking about?
She is lucky to have her strong yearling brother to walk beside her...
I wonder if her mane and tail will stay black? I was blessed to have run into these horses on this day. I hope other folks appreciate their beauty and work together to make this a safe home for our modern day Colorado mustangs.

PJ
Look closely behind the bay mare... The last time I had seen her and Picasso she was very pregnant. I had heard she gave birth to a little pinto colt. He has already been named PJ, Picasso Junior, by one of his human friends.
Here he is! He is a one of a kinder....for sure!
The whole band was napping when we walked up to them.....here is Picasso... groggy. We were able to sit a distance from them and observe.
The little filly was laying down in the wind. She has really blossomed. She is quite a few months older then her brother PJ.
This is her dam, the lovely medicine hat mare.
Welcome to Sand Wash Basin little guy. We are working on making your future more certain.
It seems like he is going to be fairly dark, but first he has the long winter ahead of him. He has a late start. I am glad he with Picasso, who is a proven, loyal band stallion.

Jet's Band
Jet, the one and only.
Kinstry, this little filly, daughter of Zephyr, is a true Sand Wash gem.
Razzle and Dazzle, the way I identify this band from a distance is by Razzle's "swirl" mark on her left side. Dazzle is a filly.
Nimbus, Sun Spot's 2010 colt.
Scenic, she was in heat and never far from Jet's side. She has no babies.
I still cannot confirm if Zephyr's yearling is a colt or a filly. One yearling was missing from the band, Scenic's black. I had never determined the gender of that horse either. Jet was quite relaxed on this day and allowed us to view his family for quite a while. He was right near the Medicine Hates. Barcus was the only bachelor, playing Satellite for Viggo.. I was with two professional photographers with me so check Pam Nickole's and Jim Westin's websites for gorgeous photos of the wild horses this last day of October.
