Ghost seems to have a left ear tip missing...He has a yellowish tinge to his tail and mane. His face is kinda longish. On this day he was alone, but seemed healthy and alert. He was quite nervous of me, so I did not over stay my visit... He was curious and wary. Seemed to have a destination as he was intent in going one direction. After I walked a ways back toward my car I looked back and he had vanished. We had a group desision for his name, that made me feel good, these are not my horses, they are America's! The people that helped name him our Friends of the Sand Wash Mustangs! They need all the help they can get, the horses that is!

Ghost
I spot this grey stallion alone. Another Snow Man look alike.
Why is he alone? Is it Snow? I really don't think so. His face is longer and he has more of a yellow tinge, he is fairly skittish.
So many grey stallions at Sand Wash! This guy has a pink snip.
He sure blends in with his environment, it was a miracle I spotted him! After I was done viewing him and was walking back towards the car he just vanished into the landscape.

Crow and Star
Here is Crow with her baby Star, of course they were with their stallion Sterling and the young stallion, Kokomo.
Star is very fuzzy, but they are starting to shed as I saw horse hair on the ground.
Star is still nursing. I am wondering if Crow girl is pregnant.

Star is so cute and Crow so beautiful!

I am very happy and relieved today, White Out and his precious little band are out of the private land and back in the HMA. They were fairly close to their buddy band, Sterling's, but not with them. I could tell by their tracks that they had just come back in. All horses seemed ok and Josie and Ivy look pregnant!

Josie gets casted
Myself and Josie's family, excluding River who was oblivious, were very worried for a little bit when Josie couldn't get up after a roll. This was not her first effort. I wonder if she is old, pregnant or both. I still love her with all my heart because she is so tough and has a rugged beauty. She is also a good mom to little River. I pray these horses get back where they belong. I informed the BLM they had crossed on to private land.
Wrong side of the fence
I see White Out, Josie, Ivy and River on the wrong side of the fence. They have crossed through an open gate. I can tell by their tracks they have been here for a couple of days. They are finding plenty of food, but need to get back into their HMA.
Ivy and White Out look concerned for Josie who has casted herself in the snow.
Both girls enjoying a roll in the snow.
Ivy upside down. She is such an awesome wild mare.
The whole time I observed, River had his nose buried in the snow.
The grass is always greener....
I find this band in the near by rancher's pasture. I hope and pray this does not lead to trouble. They are very joined up with Sterling's band, but Sterling won't cross the fence. He seems to be waiting...I bet they get out, they are so darn smart. The gate is laying open, the fence is low in spots, but hope they don't attempt to jump it!

Sterling
I spot Star and Kokomo on a steep hill overlooking the Little Snake river.
Here Star is nursing off his beautiful black velvet mom, Crow. Hi there Koko!
Star's star forms a little triangle. He seems to still be a bit sore on his hind end from his getting caught in the fence ordeal.

White Out in the snow
Today I see White Out's little family in a snowstorm. They were alone, Sterling's band no where in sight...Here is the white stallion.
I love this mare Ivy, she is so tolerant of me. She is without a foal, maybe that feels good to take a break. By the looks of her she has produced a few.

River is looking good!
He is pretty curious about me.
He always seems to find something to eat plus he is still nursing off his dam.
The small family band.
River is looking good!

Lightning's band
I was very lucky today! I ran into Lightning and his extremely good looking band.
Here's the band stallion, always looking out for his family.
Here comes Grey Boots and Dot.
Guess what? The horse in the back here I named Hazel is a stallion! I'll call him Haze. Seems to like Sky quite a bit, as these two were hanging out together.
Here's Lightning and the bay I call Dot.
They all gathered on the ridge for a fine family portrait.
Grey Boots was all over Lightning this day.
The other white mare, Lady, is Flash's mom. She is also lead mare. I found out little Flash is a stud colt today. Another one!

Haze could be related to my adopted wild one. There's that Sand Wash blaze again, wrapping around the cheek.
These horses form very strong bonds amongst one another. It's beautiful to see. I feel blessed with every encounter I have with these wild horses.
This band is not far from when I saw them back in November. Actually all the family bands seem to have a certain area on the range.

Haze and Sky. I wonder how and if they are related.

Lightning, loyal Sand Wash band stallion. His facial marking never cease to amaze me!

Prince's band
That's me enjoying being with these wonderful horses!
The Sand Wash mare Moonlight, notice her blaze does not wrap around her cheek like Sunshine's does. These mares could be sisters they look so much alike!
Prince's band, I had not seen these guys since late November.
I had a friend with me and she decided to name Moonlight's foal Dusty. I still haven't determined filly or colt nor can I decide grey or roan?!
Here's little Oda and his mom, Sunshine. Looks so much like my Odakota, this is another foal I don't know the gender of.
The band stallion Prince.
Pretty chestnut Sand Wash mustangs.
There's Cross Mountain in the background.
It was so great to see these horses again and know they are surviving the winter.
Prince looks wonderful!
It was a bright sunny day out at the wash. The only horses we saw were Prince, his 2 mares and 2 foals. I hadn't seen these guys since November. I was glad to see they all looked good and were all still together. Moonlight seems to be the dominant mare and the most wary. They were kind and let us view them quite close. They were soaking up the sun and pawing a bit for food. Sure wish I knew if the foals were colts or fillies. I am hoping fillies as there seems to be a lack of females in this herd.
