Ash's Band

We saw Ash and his band in the distance..we decided it would be worth the hike to go visit these gorgeous mustangs! I knew Twister's band had broken up and Ash had his 2 year old grulla filly, Whisp. There she is on the right..

I also noticed the little 2012 colt we call Trooper had turned blue! Oh my gosh he is a pretty colt. Just clings to his young mom, Bonnie. Bonnie has lost her yearling filly Sioux, but she is right near by with Volcano's band (more about that later).

There is Whisp, Twister and Shady's 2010 filly. Shady is also near by with Volcano's band.

Ash looks great! You could almost call him "fat"! He is a young stud I first met in the spring of 2010. He was with a "bachelor" group that included the bay filly he has now, Bonnie. She was with another yearling... a colt...Clyde. Ash was with Sundown taking care of these "orphans". I would say Ash is around 5 or 6 years old...just guesssing.

Ash looks down at Volcano...

Volcano accepts the challenge and makes his way towards Ash...

Volcano wins out this time..

Ash returns to his family band.

Femur's Band (FEAT Sunka Wakan)

Finally I get to see Femur's band with the little primitive looking colt, Sunka Wakan. I also see the big dun mare, Yellow Cat, has joined this band. When I first started observing this herd in 2009 Yellow Cat was with Femur. Since the she has been with Blazer and Voodoo.

Sunka's dam is Kinstry. She is a 2 year old filly from Jet and Zephyr. She got separated from her family band spring 2011 and ended up with Femur.

Shy Guy

Isn't he something? I just love those stripes on the legs!

Maybe this is the year for Yellow Cat to have a foal? I am so glad she came back to Femur. I think her experience will be good for this band.

It sure is nice to Femur (right) looking so content with his small family. He had been a bachelor stallion on and off post 2008 round up, up to last spring when he got most of Jet's band. The two new Jet foals, Doc and Watson, are most likely sired by this handsome bay stallion. The little grey filly on the left is another Jet 2 year old, Nimbus.
