Mellow Mustangs

Here you can get a close up view of all the horses in Cosmo's family band.

The Friendly Band

Listen to the Sand Hill Cranes while you view Cosmo's band.

More Cosmo

I spot Cosmo's band just where they were before.
CowgirlonCoffee is a dun with a dorsal stripe down her back. Juniper is kinda at that goofy stage.

These horses are very used to people, but do not mistake them for domesticated stock. They look and act different, they are 100% American mustangs.

They are very close to a sheep camp, hope they stay out of trouble.

Beauty in the desert. CowgirlonCoffee.

No mistaking the girl Pearl, half an ear and a large smudge on her left shoulder.

The grulla is stunning, probably the biggest mare in the bunch.

Jess and Juniper. I wonder if they are related?

Pearl

The horses are using the muddy roads to go places.

Star in the Wind

Turn the volume down! It is very windy out at Sand Wash this day!

Crow is Pregnant

...it is obvious! Star is still nursing off her.
I absolutely was shocked when I saw these guys again. It is uncanny, I always seem to bump into them. They are real wanderers, they are so far away from where they were ( again ), I am amazed. They were near other bands of horses.

Sterling did not tolerate me at first, but now he is real relaxed. They were on the move, but stopped for awhile while I observed.

Good ole Kokomo.

Star has had a roll! He was enjoying the spring breezes, see video.

Tashunka

The horses make an exit after briefly observing me. They are a wiley bunch.

Tashunka's band

I'm pretty excited to meet a new band of horses, it has been awhile. This one has a handsome red roan stallion I'll call Tashunka.
He really is a looker and quite wild!

There are 2 2009 foals. Here is the little bay with the star.

On the right is the other foal in this band, a grey. Need names!

This guy was not sure about me at all.

The Sand Wash herd is known to be one of the most colorful...you can see why.

Looks like we have another grulla girl on the left and she looks like she is with foal.

The way they travel through the desert takes my breath away, you'd have to see it to believe it.

Let em run!

I am blessed on this day to have met this wonderful band of horses.

Benson and Atomic

Very windy day....

Frisky bachelor stallions

I spot Benson streaking across the vast sage land with a handsome sorrel stallion in tow.
A nice sorrel with a great big white stripe. He is snorty and curious about me.

Benson has been seen with various other bachelor stallions. No mistaking Benson, with his baldy face ,blue eyes and sturdy build.

They approach me, but do not stay for long.

I'll call him Atomic, he is a beauty.

They flirted around in the strong winds.

Here you can see Atomic's mustangy profile. Do not mistake him for a domisticated horse, he is a wild horse through and through.

They have wintered well, now they are eating the first shoots of green and drinking fresh water. Long may they run!

Corona's new foal

Here are Corona's mares and yearlings. Look closely. To the left of that top horse there is something white in the sage.
Indian Rose.

The little perlino yearling made it through the winter! I did not notice if he was lame or not. Corona and Cheyenne take good care of him.

Corona, aka Fabio. He is one good looking Sand Wash band stallion. He is looking at 2 horses on the hill who chased after the band as I was leaving. I don't know what happened, they were out of sight.

Cheyenne and the underdog, Whisper, aka Tripod.

Love the waves in his mane. He almost looks surreal when you see him in person.

Whisper inherited the wavy mane.

Ghost horses.

There's little One Spirit laying down. A beautiful bay with a pronounced star. Perfect.

The wind was howling this day.

The mare Swan and her grey baby are missing.

Lona is hiding somebody.

He or she pops up out of the sage. I am more then thrilled!

So little, so leggy, so cute!

Lona is a good mom and leads him away.

This is my first baby horse I've seen in the wild and I think I am the first person it has seen. I feel so blessed! Thank you wild horse gods!

Wild Horses at Pond ( longer version )

Here is Sterling and gang. I shot this looking into the sun and couldn't see anything except shapes through the camera. They sure were snorty!

Strike a Pose

These girls are posers!
The stallion is third from the left.

Juniper

Tulip seems pleased with her new stallion. This band is calm and easy going.

Here you can see that half ear clearly.

They blend in so well with the high desert landscape, it is really something else. These horses have evolved to live in this extreme climate. Or is is not evolved? These horses are put together well, all horses seem sound after a long winter. More then sound, conditioned!

The grey mare, Pearl, has such a sweet expression.

Look at those desert colors!

Juniper getting told to hustle!

Glamour girl Grace.

There is Cowgirl on the left striking a pose.
