Kiowa

Kiowa is one of the west side bachelors. He was with a large group of stallions today.
Mystery solved, there are more then one of these young stallions of this color...there is a third one too, but today I see just these two along with nine other dispersed bachelor stallions. I'll have to go through my photos to sort the duns out. I know the lead one here is Hurricane.
Is the greying out buckskin horse Jared? Sure looks like him and in the general vacinity where I normally see him, anyway he is with a gorgeous pinto we named Kiowa. If this is Jared, he is missing a mare and her yearling colt...
Here are the four of them. They were curious about me and came in to check me out, but never relaxed. At the end of this encounter all nine stallions formed a line and ran away in single file. That is a sight to see! So much raw beauty and strenghth.
It is hard and sad for me to think of Sand Wash Basin without the wild mustangs...for now I will enjoy them and hope for a future. They are too nice of animals to lose.
Kiowa is a big guy! I love his bay coat splattered with the trademark Sand Wash "splashes". Hurricane keeps right up!
The dun on the right is Hurricane. The horse I saw this winter. He has black socks and a roman nose. The one on the left has some white on his face. They sure do have similar conformations! Brothers?
Here's Hurricane. He is very, very fast! A wiley little mestango.
I love these colors. Eventually he will go grey, like so many of these wild horses.
Ranger, the overo paint ( Hildago )is in the distance with a bay stallion. I'll never forget the photo workshop when Ranger was the star! He was pretty flighty on this windy spring day.
Off they go! I put my camera down to take it all in. I counted nine horses , all bachelor stallions.
Next I see Cosmo and his beautiful band with their new colt, Astro. He looks strong and well taken care of by his wild horse family.
Tulip moves him away from me. She is very protective of the little guy. I leave her alone.
The colors in this band are extraordinary. They really are striking against the desert landscape.
Jess and Juniper.
More greys...
Astro heading out behind his mom.
The band stallion, Cosmo. He watches out for his mares and new foal. If I had to describe him in one word it would be dignified.
