This is Tripod's third winter out here surviving the brutal elements with such a severe disability, he is testimony to the hardiness of a mustang, but it is tough to see.
This sorrel was in Eleganza's mixed up band last summer as one of the doggers. He is really shy and does not like to look at the camera. We named him Rooibos.
A closer look at the grey...I am pretty sure it is a 2 yr old..maybe Aspen from Cortez's band?

Two underdogs come together and persevere!
We can tell the shy Rooibos by his split stripe.
My personal opinion is that is abscessed and healed, but I am no vet, but I can see where it drained. How he survived the infection we will never know.
For now Tripod is safe and of good weight. This little colt is a true surviver....with a little help from his friends.

I wonder if he doesnt have chips of bone in there and it abcesses off and on.
Glad Tripod is better but still hate to see this injury. Thanks for the update on this group. I'm glad he is not alone for now. Lethie
I agree, it looks as though there is bone or something causing an irritation. He is a strong soul to be able to cope and survive!
Thank you so very much for your time and patience and for keeping us all informed.
I am so glad to see how well Tripod is doing. Mustangs are just amazing. I like the photo of the two underdogs. It tells quite a story!
The photo of the two underdogs is just a wonderful commentary on the way the wild horses support each other. Its just a beautiful photo. Very moving when one knows the two stories. I agree with Karen its wonderful to see how well Tripod is doing.
I was wondering if perhaps Tripod re-injured his hock when play fighting. From your photos he sure seems to do everything that all the other horses are doing his age. That is an amazing story in and of its self. =0)
does anyone know how tripod hurt his hock like that?
what a pretty strong lil colt he has became
