Barcus's Band

Barcus, the big Black, was with the large group consisting if Viggo, Tonka and Brave's bands. Barcus has just one mare (Honey), her yearling daughter (Blondie) and her 2011 colt (Monti).

Here is the young filly...ID'd as Blondie...isn't she something else? The HSUS worker told me she was an apricot dun, but my friend was convinced she is a palomino. She does have a line down her back. Any color you call her she is a real stand out!

Blondie's dam and Barcus's only mare, Honey. Honey was with Solaris's band last year, but somehow ended up with the unsettled bunch (Eleganza and gang) when winter broke. Her 2011 colt, Monti, was one of the first born this spring. When Barcus fought for his life  to win over Honey,  little Monti was just a newborn. Honey does not seem settled with Barcus...maybe she is pining for the company of other mares?

I am almost sure Honey is part of the HSUS PZP study.

There's Monti with the big guy, he seems to really look up to this wise wild stallion....he is learning the ways of a Sand Wash mustang from him. Monti is a laid back little guy. This summer he was showing signs of being a beautiful roan. Here you can see the unique shape of Barcus's head. No mistaking this guy...plus his legs are like tree trunks.

Barcus lost half an ear to win over Honey.

Brother and sister.

Barcus's Band

The big black stallion, Barcus, is looking really good. He went throug hell and high waer to get this little dun mare, Honey, earlier this year. He lost an ear in the process! I'll always think of Barcus as the one that got stuck on the wrong side of the fence spring of 2010. He would not stop running the line, screaming out for his herd. Somehow he escaped back in to his home and has been a force ever since.

Honey came with her yearling filly, Blondie and her 2011 colt, Monti. When I first saw Honey this spring, she was with the "unsettled bunch". The large group led by the white mare, Eleganza. Last summer she was with Solaris.

The mare does not seem happy with this arrangement! Maybe things will get better? I am sure she is pining for her sisters.

The new foal is beautiful! He is a little roan. He was born early this summer over by Yellow Cat draw.

Barcus was hanging out with a large group of harmonious bands on this day including Corona, Cosmo, Yellow Man and Viggo. Look how big he is! Gotta love this big black wild stallion. He is a sight to behold! I bet he will get a few more mares in the near future. There will be many 3 yr old fillies next year. I looked at my records and out of the 60+ foals born in 2009 (post round up) almost 60% are fillies. Should be interesting..

Barcus Gets A Band

It is good to see the black, Barcus, has finally won over a mare. It is Honey from Solaris's band, her yearling filly, Blondie and 2011 colt, Montie.

In between Solaris and Barcus, Honey was part of "the unsettled band" led by the grey mare, Eleganza. I am glad to see she has settled with this brawny stallion.

Blondie is a real beauty. She is the only apricot dun I know of roaming the range.

Montie is roaning out.

Barcus has lost half an ear trying to win over mares....Last year he got stuck on the other side of the fence....I am so glad he found his back way in to his home. He is really healing up nicely and is full of himself.
