Chief & JimmyDarkSand's Band

I wanted to show you what is going on with "Chief and Jimmy's band". It seems the two bay stallions are sharing the three grey mares with Roper, the dun, dogging them.
This is Chief ...he for sure has Barbie and Darcy. These were his two mares last summer too. The third mare, the really white one, was Brave's. I think Jimmy has claimed her.
Roper, he has been following these guys all spring.
The mare on the left is Vermillion, she is the one that was with Brave last year. She has her two year old filly, Spook, by her side. She did not have a foal last year.
There's Spook. The mother/daughter are very attached.
This is the new colt we named Dreamer. He is out of Darcy. Darcy's yearling filly (Megan) is missing on this day and her two year old colt, Hawk, is running with the westside bachelors.
Chief and Darcy and their new foal, Dreamer.
Chief...I think this is the first time I got a shot of his eye, normally his long forelock covers them well. He is a wiley guy.
Lot's of this going on in this band. The stallions are constantly picking fights.
That's JimmyDarkSand. Chief allows him to mix with the mares...I even saw him mating with one. Last year Chief traveled with Brave. This is not the only band with more then one stallion.
The mares huddle together inbetween the stallions.
This was just a brief encounter...it is fun to watch the dynamics of this ever changing herd of Colorado wild horses.

Hi, you have a lovely blog! I'm headed up to the Sandwash Basin for the first time to try out my new camera and was wondering if you have any tips for finding and viewing the herd? Also, if you know what I should expect camping in the area? Thanks!
