The bay (Floriano) and the white (Pablina) were his original mares when he stole them from Lightning last spring. They each have a yearling colt plus Pablina has a new filly. ...shown on the far right here.
Moonlight and Oda seemed a little unsettled and pining for something in the distance...maybe Prince? I had seen a white stallion earlier that had looked like Prince...alone. More drama in the basin. These horses do a good job of mixing up their genes. It is nature's way out there. We are lucky are herd is still genetically viable.
This little guy has gotten really cute! He is Floriano's colt. We ID'd him as Cabellero. His sire is either Haze or Lightning. He has a sleek chestnut colt with a dark mane and a blondie tail. His blaze wraps around into an apron. He is one of my favorites. I just love this 2010 colt!
There's Cabellero hassling his new half sister, Luzania. The white mare, Pablina, is stunning...very elegant and wiley.
Luzania. ....a friend has thought of some beautiful Spanish names for some of our mustangs, this is in honor of their Spanish blood many carry within them. It is obvious in many of these wild horses...the Barb influence..
That's Juniper scratching herself on some scrub...she is one of Rounder's new "mares", she is only 2. She came from Cosmo's band.
Here is the other yearling colt, Diego. He was born before Cabellero last year. He is also very handsome.
My guy, Cabellero. You can't help but have favorites, but once you get to know them you love them all.
Rounder seemed to come from nowhere last spring to take over Lightning's mares. the HSUS reported he had not been rounded up in 2008 and was not documented untill 2010. For now he is enjoying the life of a dominant band stallon on this range he calls home....Sand Wash Basin Colorado USA.
