In October of 2008 about 200 of the 400 wild horses of Sand Wash Basin were taken off of their range. About 20 were brought to the Craig fairgrounds for adoption, only 7 found homes. One of those was Odakota this chestnut pinto with the big blaze. He caught my eye right away, he looked like an Indian pony and had sweet eyes. I had no intention of acquiring a new horse when I woke up that morning, but it was meant to be. We have developed a bond this past year of trust and understanding. He has made me aware of America's wild horses and how they are being managed to extinction. The whole issue is overwhelming, I will just concentrate on Odakota's herd, the Sand Wash Basin HMA, which is located near me in NW Colorado.
