The Band On The Hill

I made a special point today to go see Twister and his beautiful little wild horse family.
He has two gorgeous grey mares who both have 2010 foals.
They also have a grey yearling, Twister's buddy, Gus.
The mares are very wary, especially the dark dappled one, Shady. That is little breeze in the front with his dam, Windy. The tiny grulla is in this picture, but he knows how to hide behind mom!
Here is the little chunky monkey grulla colt....To me he is extra cute. His mom and big brother look out for him on the range. Life is not easy out here. I know of at least 2 foals that have already passed. The true test for a mustang is surviving the harsh high desert winters.
I hope this guy makes it. So far he looks great. A little Sand Wash beauty.
Breeze is also a handsome boy, he was born a couple of months before the grulla. He is going through a molting phase.
Both of the mares have incredible wind knots in their manes.
Breeze.
