Desert Colors

This is the closest I've been to Tahunka (the red roan stallion) and his handsome band. What a treat! The band consists of Tashunka, three mares, two yearlings and a 2010 foal. Their colors are stunning.
This wise mare has lost both of the tips off her ears, probably due to frostbite. the winters are extreme out on the range.
There is the foal a friend has named Chikala, Lakota for little one. Her mom is a grulla with primitive striping on her legs.
The more I get to know these horses the more I am convinced they are descended from ancient blood lines. Not just any horse can survive the extreme conditions out at Sand Wash. They are built to withstand...mustang tough.
These are American Mustngs. Colorado bred.
This is the blue stud colt. I had only seen him from a distance, he looks even better up close.
This is how I normally view Tashunka's band.

You have some really gorgeous horses in this herd. I really need to get up there and visit you and them!
