Tashunka's Band

I had heard Tashunka, the bay red roan band stallion, had a new foal in his harem. I got lucky today and got a good look at all members, including the new filly.
Here is the stallion. He was not accepting of me at first, but I did approach and retreat and finally got him to relax.
Here is the stand out in the band. The filly that was born to the bay mare late last summer. We call her Nahmana. She was born bay, but has turned into a roan like her father. I just love her looks....always have.
There she is with her mom, Moda. Moda has both ear tips missing. She stands apart like her daughter.
That's Moda's other filly, Mina. She is a two year old. She is the only two year old in this band now. There was a blue colt (Takoda), but he has left and joined the bachelors. Also a grey mare is missing.( Wi Wakan) She was with them going into winter...
There is the grulla mare showing off her new filly. She has been named by a friend of the mustangs...Tecumseh. All of Tashunka's mares and fillies have Native American names for their ID's.
There is Tecumseh's full sister, Chikala, the yearling buckskin.
This black mare joined Tashunka last fall. This was the first time I really got a good look at her. She has three white socks and is one of the blackest horses I have ever seen! I have no idea where she came from.
The new foal...she looks bay now, but I would not be surprised if she changes color. She has a great big star and a natural beauty.
Laying down with her mustang sister....
The black mare. She needs a name...
Here is a family portrait minus the stallion. The Sand Wash Basin wild horses are known as one of the most colorful herds in the nation...you can see why. I think we have every color out here, except I have never seen an appoloosa.
