This is Yellow Man's newest mare, Pearl, who he acquired from Cosmo last fall. I don't know if "acquired" is the right word...I was not around when the transition took place. She sure seems to like Yellow. She is not real prolific. She has not had a foal for three years and does not look pregnant. I could be wrong, she is such a round little mare. You can tell Pearl by her half an ear and a smudge mark on her left shoulder.
I just wanted to show you Star's coloring. while his sister is greying out quickly, he is going the slow route. He has a beautiful silver cast to his coat. I saw a bunch of this colt the winter of 2010 when he was just a little guy, black as coal.
I think Owl's sire was a big grey we called Sterling. He has not been seen since spring of 2010. He could have easily slipped out of the HMA. The easern cattle guards got covered with 2 feet of snow this winter....I believe many mustangs are over there.
Here is Yellow Man. He has gone from being a bachelor to a family band stallion. He has a strong, harmonious band.
I think this mare, Owl's mom, Crow, is the reason this band thrives. She is a wise old girl who knows her way around the range.
Crow leads them away. I am thankful I got this close encounter with this magnificent Sand Wash wild horse family.
