I am slowing learning more about this "Mystery band" On this day there was the grey mare, her yearling dun (buckskin?) colt and two sorrel stallions. They are hanging out near the east fence line . I think some of their "friends" are over there...
Bonita had her foal! Boy is he cute! A little pinto, looks just like his dad, but he has little grey goggles which has me wondering if he will grey out out like his beautiful mom. A friend has put the name Marty on him for his ID. I am pretty sure he is a colt, but not 100% certain.
Bonita, the mare, still has dried blood on her back legs. This guy could not be more then a few days old. He already keeps up with his band. A little sage runner!
Well, I had heard Corona and Cheyene's two year old disabled colt, Tripod, was alive and well. Today I got to see for myself. He is hanging out with a black stallion I do not recognize.....a friend has dubbed him Buddy. These two are great friends. They make quite the pair.
Buddy.
Tripod sustained a major hock injury as a newborn. He still hobbles around, but has survived two winters. You gotta love an underdog. It would be inhumane to chase him with a helicopter. We will have to make sure he is safe if we do a "gather".
Just snuck one in of Picasso. I never get tired of looking at this majestic little stallion. Here he is with his yearling daughter, Mango. To me she doesn't look well. She was a bit listless on this day, normally she is more spunky. Also Picassso's Sombrero mare is quite lame on her left front. She has a turned in foot which might be causing her pain. These mustangs travel miles in a day. A conformation fault can show up. I only hope for the best. She is another one we should not run with a helicopter.
Here's Picasso's lead mare, Mingo. She is a special mare....she is a Medicine Hat.
This is the black, Jet. He is on his own. I am in shock. He had one of the largest, most harmonious bands on the range. For some reason he has lost his mares and is trying to get them back. I see no signs of lameness. No one will ever know what happened. Centauro has his white and Corona his grulla. Another friend also saw some of his band, including his pinto mares, with Femur.
There is Jet's white mare, Sun Spot. She is very pregnant. When she left jet she also left her yearling colt, Nimbus, behind along with her two year old filly, Gypsy. She seems to be blending in with Centauro's mares ok. Her grulla sister was with her for a while, but now is with Corona.
Centauro, the very Spanish looking dappled grey. He has one of the largest bands now with the addition of his two new foals and Jet's white mare.
Centauro's and Reyna's filly, Tierra. She has just started to lose her newborn fuzz.
Both of Centauro's foals, a colt and a filly. They could have been both born on the same day they are so similar in age. They are growing fast!
The colt, Terora.
