Bonanza

I'm breaking this day into segments because I saw so many horses. Here is Jet's band. The first thing I notice is Sun Spot has had her foal! It is a colt, we have group named him, Nimbus.
Right near Jet was Centauro, the dappled grey, and his four mares and yearlings. These are two of the largest bands out at Sand Wash....
Here is the new guy or girl. Another grey! You can tell by his grey "goggles" he adorns.
That's Beauty out front. Sun Spot was very wary and the new foal is lightning fast.
Here is the grulla pinto, Sugar, and Centauro's two bay mares, Reyna and Sofia.
Jet gave the signal to run! In my opinion, he is the fastest mustang on the range.
Stay together for safety!
Centauro's impressive band.
In the mix was Nomad, Feather and Streaker. I never can seem to get a good photo of these guys. Feather is very wiley and fast. Streaker, the black colt has four white socks. Super cool looking little mestango.
I also saw Vogue and Gem. They are not quite as spooky. I love Vogue's hour glass blaze.
Here they are again with their Stallion , Femur. Last fall Femur  had three mares, then in the spring I saw him alone. Somehow he got Vogue and little Gem back.
That is the tail ends of Cowboy and Voodoo, who are best bachelor buddies. They are kinda submissive stallions and seem to keep to themselves. Voodoo reminds me of my mustang.
This is Haze, the young stallion in Lightning's band, making a funny face. On this day Lightning was real near Prince, who took back his mare and her foal from Lightning. There were a few conflicts between the band stallions plus Haze and the tag along stallion Chrome were fighting. Nothing too serious. Prince seems dominant.
Here is Haze with his new brother. A friend of the mustangs has named him Diego, Picasso's second name. These horses have been DNA tested and have Iberian blood. Diego is a spanish name.
The stunning mare, Pablina, and her beautiful new foal, Diego.
Good ole Flash, the sole yearling with Lightning.
Here is one of Prince's twin chestnut mares. Sunlight, you can tell her apart from her "sister" by her apron blaze that wraps around her right cheek.
Mystic has chosen to stay with Prince.
Prince's chestnut mares. Moonlight and Sunshine.
The band stallion prince with filly Oda. I bet more people see this band of horses then any other because they live near the entrance and they are pretty tolerent of people. It's nice to have a group like this so folks visiting can see how awesome these horses are! All the horses have different comfort zones around people. It is interesting. I am also glad there are horses that are wild as snot! Jet comes to mind...
Diego. So sweet.
Flash gets a lot of attention from all of the mares.
Lightning, the stand out black and white pinto stallion. He is very wise in the ways of Sand Wash Basin.
Mustang brothers.
OK, this cracks me up! Show Girl in between Raven and Viggo. She is so pregnant. She hardly moved on this day I observed her. I never realized she was so short! Or maybe Raven is so tall.
Guess who? Sterling, the stallion I spent so much time with this winter. He has lost his whole family. Crow and Star were near by with their new stallion and Koko is running with the west side bachelors. He seemed unsettled and all beat up. He has cool stripes on his legs, like so many of these wild horses.
This filly has legs! The one and only, Flirt! I have never seen a horse of this color before. I bet she will get lighter as she gets older. We will see.
Here she is with her mom. This is one of many bands with only three horses.
Their stallion, Bear, snaking them around.

Raven, my favorite mare, is tall but Show Girl may have sunk into the land from all the weight in her belly. She is obviously full of...........water????
