Here is the entire band.
Windy, the white mare, has beautiful wind knots in her mane. Coming out of winter they almost touched the ground. She is a good mom and led her foal away.
....but then stopped and they observed me a little more. They are curious and wary about humans.
Twister gives me the look. I respect him and don't push the boundaries. All the horses have different tolerence levels.
The yearling colt always seems to be playing around with the stallion. Soon Breeze will be big enough to join in!
Off goes Twister.
The next horses I see are Yellow Man and...
...a very pregnant Crow with her yearling colt, Star. I am so anxious for this foal. I spent quite a bit of time with these 2 this winter. She is a tough, gnarly mustang mare. Drop dead gorgeous with her velvet black coat.
Next I ran into Centauro's skittish group. As usual they were all paired off with the four mares and their yearlings. The stallion is not in this photo.
Here he is. The dappled grey stallion who keeps his mares lined up! Centauro!
The palominos really stand out.
Near them were White Out, Josie, River and Strider. Yes, Strider, the 2010 foal is hiding behind the mare.
Josie knows the mare, Crow, well. They were in 2 separate bands this winter, but stayed close. Sand Wash bands are very small due to being rounded up so much. Often times the bands will hang near one another if the stallions have reached an agreement, or maybe it is the mares.
There's Strider, he can really streak across his desert home.
White Out showing off his family. See what I mean by small bands?
This grulla pinto mare seems to be alpha in Centauro's band. Behind her is her yearling. He looks nothing like his band stallion..
On this day it was 90 degrees and the winds were probably gusting up to 30 mph. It was very hard to get any pictures. Plus the horse were spooked because their major water holes have been tampered with.
Also near by were Sage, Vogue and Gem, Blaze and Yellow Cat and White Out's bands.
The mare is for sure pregnant. Her colt is a bay beauty. You can see the wind in this photo.
