Here is Femur, the bay band stallion with Vogue and Gem. They had already had a drink and were on their way out.
Vogue and her filly, Gem.
Lots of room to roam...
The next band in was White Out's. Here is his 2010 foal, he is a colt.
They stopped briefly to check me out. This was a group I spent a lot of time with this winter.
First White Out chases off Sterling, who is now a bachelor stallion. These two were both band stallions this winter and hung out near each other. Things change on the range. The bands are dynamic.
Sterling. Beat up as usual.
Sterling is currently traveling with another stallion. I call him Buddy. He briefly had Bug's mares this spring.
Finally relaxed enough to get a cool drink of water.
Pretty white, huh?
Josie, the mare, calls out. Is she still looking for her lost mustang sister who died this spring giving birth? The mares formed a very strong bond.
Strider seems to look up to his yearling brother, River, who has really blossomed into a nice looking guy.
Here is Sterling and Buddy having a tiff.
Next comes Viggo's handsome family.
The black mare does not have a foal. The two other mares, pintos, each have a yearling and look pregnant.
That's Flirt and Ellie. Bear came down with them next. Flirt was very interested in Viggo's two youngsters, but the stallions would not let them play.
Viggo watching Tonka, the bachelor, passing by. He is snaking his buddy Rudi around.
Here is Rudi and Tonka together. Rudi is a mare! All this time I thought she was a stallion! I should have figured this out by their behavior.
Rudi down.
Tonka down.
Sterling having a splash.
That's Bear, the big old band stallion with his little filly, Flirt. She was living up to her name on this day.
She is a good looking smokey palomino.
Bear looks out for her and her mom. They live in harmony.
Tonka and Rudi again. They hung out by the water a long time on this hot day.
There is Buck, Feather and filly Streaker behind Viggo's band.
This is about how far Charm and Flirt got to each other.
Streaker had a big twig stuck in her mane. She was very thirsty and drank with gusto!
Picasso's band also came down. Their little filly went straight in!
That's Tonka and Rudi checking out Picasso's band.
Reflections of the pintos.
Tonka makes a move, nothing serious. Picasso is an elder and the other horses respect him ( most of the time ).
Picasso's
Mango
She is a true medicine hat, even has the shield on her chest. Mingo.
Love those freckles.
It was fun just to be with these mustangs, hanging out by the water.
The mustang mares.
Here is Charm from Viggo's band with her horse aunt, Raven. Black as coal.
