Yampatika

The highlight of this day for me was seeing Indian Rose's new foal. We will call him or her Yampatika, in honor of the Yampa Valley and the folks who want to preserve its wild places. A few of these people came to visit the wild horses today.
Yampatika's band stallion is Corona, the impressive palomino. here he is with the palomino pinto mare, Cheyenne, who he seems to favor.
He couldn't be very old...Looks so little in this great big landscape!
The white foal laying down is Bobby, another 2010 colt in this band. He was born early this spring. For me he is special because he was the first wild foal I had ever seen.
Near by was this mare and her grey yearling. Out of the shot is the bay stallion that has claimed them. The mare seems to always be running away from him. We will name this small family after some of the native vegetation. Greasewood, Yarrow and White Sage.
Look who we got to eat lunch near! The amazing black stallion Jet and his lovely harem of mares and babies.
Lots of color in this band!
I finally got a close up view of Sun Spot's new filly, she is a beauty!
Even though we were a large group of folks, Jet stuck around for a while and we all got a great look at this handsome Sand Wash family.
That's not like Jet. I believe he is getting more tolerant of people. Lucky us!
Jet
For me, my eyes are always drawn to the pinto mare with the big swirl of color.
Seems like little Kinstry is almost as big as her yearling brother. She was an early foal. She has really changed in color. I think she will be a grulla like her mom.
She has zebra stripes on her legs....this filly is special.
After viewing Jet we drove on and saw two huge bull elk. I did not get a photo. Next we saw this lone yearling. A Sand Wash Mystery. I can't confirm, but he looks similar to one I saw on the other side of the fence awhile back....
We also saw the bachelor stallion, Sundown. He is normally with his buddy Shadow and the two yearlings Bonnie and Clyde....not today. All in all it was a wonderful day spent with beautiful horses and people that care about them.
