Here is a close up of the new foal, which I believe to be a filly. Keeps right up with her family. The mare is a good mom and was the most leery in the bunch. I would say the foal will be grey by the rings around her eyes.
They keep the foal between them and huddle up. They always go to the band stallion, Lightning, for security. If I had to guess I would say the black and white band stallion is an elder.
Sky looks pregnant in this picture! I would have thought she is too young...we'll see. Haze, the young stallion on the right, is still with the band, but has conflicts with Lightning.
Here is Chrome, the dun bachelor stallion who has been tailing the group.
Blue Sky. She is always fairly mellow. She has the Sand Wash blaze.
Lightning let me sit down and just be with them for awhile. It was really neat being amongst the wild horses, a true honor. It was very peaceful and dreamy to sit with this band of horses who have let me into their world.
Flash is looking good as an yearling. He is real laid back and even layed down while I was viewing them. Layed back for a mustang that is!
Haze, the young stallion with one blue eye, one brown.
Dot has had a roll. The Sand Basin was blessed with some needed moisture this past week.
Here is the new girl moving off by her mother's side. This was a great encounter!
Lightning goes from standing perfectly still to trotting off into the high desert wilderness.
He has a brief confortation with Haze on the way down. Then they band together and move effortlessly across their high desert home, becoming mere dots in the distance.
