The Professionals

Today the horses are blessed to have professional photographers taking their pictures. I really wanted to see Lightning's band and we did! We had really nice morning lighting and the horses were a bit frisky. Pam is a seasoned wild horse viewer and photographer. She is a loyal friend to our mustangs.
I am so excited to see how these pics come out....Lightning and his all American wild horse family put on quite a show. It was fun to see the new filly so close up. Carien got right in the action! She is doing what she does best, taking pictures of all things equine. Look at that lens! Chrome, the bachelor stallion, was hanging near the herd and the young stallion, Haze was being kicked out by Lightning. I was told he could be kicked out, but welcomed back in after Lightning has bred the mares.
There was a good fight between the bachelors and Lightning was gorgeous running around. These guys here pretty much stayed out of it. Madeleine was stuck to her mom like glue.
It was so funny they really did seem to be posing this morning. Like they knew they were being photographed...Very few horses in Sand Wash let you observe them so closely, especially with a new foal like Madeleine. I am grateful for the ones that let us into their lives...This is the family portrait. Gosh, look how pregnant the flea speckled mare is!
To me, this was the amazing thing I saw all day, Kokomo out with a bachelor band and gone from Sterling, Crow and Star! I bet you Crow had her foal...Koko is with Thunder, Ranger and the big grey. They all seemed to be in good nick and high spirits.
Koko running with the big boys. I really always remember him last winter pestering his little brother, Star. My friend mentioned maybe he is a Picasso son? He is a stunning little pinto, it will be fun to see how his life unfolds.
I'm telling you, the grey is big. He does not seem like a very dominant horse, unlike little Kokomo.
We had this encounter with a group of 4 stallions. I recognized these 2 from last time, I first thought it was a mare and foal, but is actually 2 stallions. The larger grey one is really lame and beat up. His left front is pretty damaged, but he's with other horses and seems to be holding his own. He runs on 3 legs.

The little palomino is gorgeous, I wonder if he is an orphan? Really beautiful little horse.
Here is the injured grey. He looks so much like an younger version of Sterling, I'll call him Silver.

They take good care of their home range and do a lot of their pooping on roads.

We see a band in the distance I do not recognize...
This mare stood out to me. A grulla pinto. Their were about 5 pairs of horses and a slate grey stallion, he was something else.
Hopefully I'll get to know this large band of horses...They sure were colorful, including 2 striking palominos. maybe I'll never see them again, that is how it goes out at Sand Wash. What a day spent with fellow wild horse lovers. Look for Pam's pictures on her blog ( see my list ).
