Orphans

These two are really cute, two yearlings who live with a couple of bachelors. The bay is a filly, the sorrel a colt.

I read somewhere that in herds that have been rounded up a lot , like this one, often times the families will kick out their offspring when young. This herd was rounded up in 1998, 2001, 2005, and most recently in 2008.

The grey is dominent. They were all just being playful in the desert winds. They were exactly where I saw them last time.

Had to throw in a funny one! This is kinda a funny group. I've named the grey Shadowand a friend has named the bay Sundown.

Tonka and Rudi are still together. These guys have lived on the range awhile it shows. Not just any horse can survive the elements of Sand Wash, but these 2 are proven.

Tonka is a beauty and so is Rudi. These horses have a rich history out at Brown's Park. They may not be Spanish bred, but they are for sure American bred! Their relatives may have carried the Ute indians on their backs. They may have helped Butch Cassidy and other outaws get around Brown's Park. These are not just any horses, they are hardy mustangs that can wihstand the extreme nature of Sand Wash Basin.
